Behind the Sticker: Frosted Flatwoods Salamander and Stop the Mining near Okefenokee Swamp
Frosted Flatwoods Salamander Sticker & Stop the Mining Near Okefenokee Swamp:
The Okefenokee Swamp is located in southeast Georgia and northeast Florida. It is over 400,000 acres of natural beauty and wildlife, including the threatened frosted flatwoods salamander. Twin Pines Minerals is a mining company that has set its sights on an area right outside of the swamp to strip mine for titanium. The Army Corps of Engineers made a statement that it could no longer prevent the company from mining on over 350 acres because the corps now lacked jurisdiction due to President Trump’s administration imposing regulations that redefined wetlands. Now, Twin Pines Minerals will be able to mine right outside of Okefenokee Swamp with little setback after getting permits through the state.
This is where the idea for the stickers came from—to give attention to the ones who cannot talk and oppose the destruction of their homes. Click on either picture to purchase a sticker! 40% of the monies from each sticker purchased will be split equally between the Georgia Water Coalition & Georgia River Network—they are fighting the good fight against the destruction of Okefenokee Swamp.
